Rachel Lee – After Effects Progress

We used After Effects to create simple 2D animations. I created a ping-pong style animation by animating the positions of the bars on either side.

The ball has had it’s position attribute animated to mode side to side.

The text has had it’s position and rotation animated.

For this session, we used After Effects to layer up elements of video and footage, and brought in assets created in Illustrator which were animated over the top.

I was able to add text using text layers and even an audio track too.


Rachel Lee – CINEMA4D Progress

In CINEMA4D we firstly created a 3D model made up of more basic ‘parametric’ shapes such as cubes and cylinders. These were arranged in 3D space into a toy train model. I have used deformers (purple lines) to distort the basic shapes.

We started working on a human shaped model in CINEMA4D, using a method called ‘box modelling’. We added more faces and points using the Knife tool to add ‘cuts’ to the model. The shape of the knee in my model has messed up a bit as I put in too many cuts!

The final session in CINEMA4D looked at creating animation. This type of animation is known as ‘procedural’ animation as there are no keyframes. CINEMA4d uses a tool called Mograph, which takes a sound file and creates an equaliser effect using the different volumes.

Rachel Lee – Illustrator Progress

Using the Pen tool, we created a ‘polygonal’ style by tracing out small elements from a reference photograph.

We used basic shapes such as rectangles and circles, and combined them together using Illustrator’s Pathfinder tools to create more complex elements. In the image above I have experimented with using different stroke styles to get a more natural feel.

Above is a background I created in Illustrator to use in an animation we made using After Effects. After Effects is only for putting pieces of artwork together to animate, so Illustrator is a good tool for creating assets.

Michael Ross – Cinema4d

In Cinema4d I have used multiple 3d shapes such as cubes and cylinders to create a model of a wooden style children’s toy train. I have used deformers such as the taper deformer to change the shape of some of pieces used in the model.

The second image is the start of my human model. I used a method called box modelling to create new faces and points to create my model. I then used a symettry object to reflect the other side.
